  • Shakil Mahmoud

    Shakil Mahmud is currently pursuing the PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering in the University of South Florida. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Bangladesh in 2015. From April, 2016 to November, 2017 he was a Specialist in Transmission and Core Network at Robi Axiata Limited, Dhaka, Bangladesh. His research interests include Hardware Security and Bio-implantable Devices. In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports shows.

  • Brooks Olney

    Brooks Olney is currently pursuing the PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida. He received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of South Florida in 2018. His research interests include hardware/software/cyber security, hardware/algorithm acceleration using FPGAs, and FPGA security. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, exercise, video games, and working on side projects.

  • Farhath Zareen

    Farhath Zareen is currently pursuing the PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of South Florida. She received her B.S. degree in Information Technology from Osmania University, India in June 2016, and MS degree in Computer Science from the University of South Florida in 2018. Her research interests include Artificial Immune Systems, Biologically Inspired Computational Algorithms, Artificial Neural Networks, Software and Hardware Security and Natural Language Processing.

  • Mateus A. Fernandes A.

    Mateus A. Fernandes A. is currently pursuing the M.S. degree in Computer Engineering at the University of South Florida. He received his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of South Florida in 2021. His research interests include hardware/software security, bio-inspired robotics/systems/algorithms, and bio-implantable/wearables. In his spare time, he enjoys reading and watching videos about technology, philosophy, health, comedy, and games.

Prospective Students

Research Assistant (RA) and Teaching Assistant (TA) positions with full financial support are available. Interested applicants should contact me. Please send your CV, samples of your writing (especially peer-reviewed articles), and links (e.g. to GitHub or a personal website) with example projects you have worked on or contributed significantly to. Candidates with a strong background in hardware, especially FPGA (Verilog/VHDL), simulation/test, and computer architecture are encouraged to apply. I also welcome candidates with experience in signal processing, Matlab/Simulink, and statistics.

Current USF CSE undergraduate students: if you are interested in independent study (CIS 4900 - 3 credits) in a computer engineering topic, please email me with your proposed area of study. Students interested in the joint B.S./M.S. degree program in computer engineering, and whose research interests align with any of my focus areas, are strongly encouraged to contact me as well. RA and TA positions with financial support may be available.
