Student Advice for Computer Tools for Engineers

At the end of the Fall 1997 semester all students were asked to answer the following questions, "What advice do you have for future students in this course?" The answers were to be written anonymously on a 3x5 card. All of the submitted answers have been transcribed below in a totally uncensored form. A few of the replies offer advice to me (the instructor), and not you (the future student).

  1. "My advice to you is: Go to lecture no matter what time it's at because the prof makes everything in the book easy to understand."
  2. "Drink less caffine - too hyper."
  3. "My advice to you is... is meet that cute girl that is sitting next to you."
  4. "My advice to you is, look into a business major, they get good jobs too."
  5. "My advice to you is: Just diligently work the assigned homework and the calss will be easy."

  8. "My advice to you is to try to get out of this class."

  12. "My advice to you is to stay on top of your studys. Don't allow yourself to slip, even for one lecture. It's hard to get caught up."

  40. "My advice to you is: Study mathcad hard & don't worry about doing poorly at it because he won't cover it adequately anyway and eventually maybe he'll figure it's a waste of time."
  41. "Keep a watchful eye on the internet page which gives many clues about assignments and don't be hesitant to see someone about class material. Pay attention in class especially."
